Glad you enjoy mochi! I was at a Buddhist gathering in Chicago seated for lunch with a bunch of white Dharma teachers and they began saying to each other how awful mochi is and they can’t understand how can anyone (I.e. Asians) eat the stuff. Maybe I’m too sensitive but I felt like they were ganging up to attack my cultural heritage. (Rev Patti at Buddhist Temple of Chicago where we had a great mochi tsuki this month)
Plenty of photos on the Buddhist Temple of Chicago’s Facebook page. We’ll be putting some on our website but for now there’s a video BuddhistTempleChicago.org
Thats really cool, and the innovations for the rice washers is like 2 tofu makers I knew ,elderly and they used a big mop squeezer(expressly for Smilk purposes😊)to extract the milk and an industrial size stick blender for the milk blend🤓
As usual, a beautifully evocative piece! I loved the videos posted on Instagram of everyone pounding the mochi.
I am looking forward to attending my first Mochitsuki at my local Nikkei Society January 15th. I first had mochi in sweet adzuki bean soup about 30 years ago at my friend's New Year celebration & I've been in love with it ever since. Happy New Year! Gasho!

I am so sorry to hear that, Rev Patty but happy to hear of your successful mochitsuki. Anywhere I can see pics?
